SDS : Lalla Hasnaa “Sustainable Shoreline” Trophy
SDS, in partnership with the Municipality of Saidia and the ANELMA association, received an award at the "Sustainable Shoreline" ceremony presided by HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa on December 7, 2014 at the Palais des Congrès in Skhirat.
The award in the category "Protection and Improvement of the Natural Environment" rewards the efforts of SDS to safeguard and protect the coastline and environment of the tourist resort of Saidia. In 2013 Saidia had already been awarded the designation of "Blue Flag" (which it retained in 2014) in partnership with the Mohammed VI Foundation for the protection of the environment.
The main actions undertaken by SDS to obtain this designation for the coastline of the tourist resort of Saidia were:
Protection and enhancement of the natural environment:
- Thorough cleaning of the shoreline.
- Provision of public toilets, strengthened safety precautions, no drowning reports in 2014 (nor in 2013), maintenance and protection of the bank of dunes ...
- Improved landscaping, beach camping ground, provision of pedestrian paths, building of watchtowers for protecting bathers, marking off swimming areas ...
Youth and education: educational and awareness activities, based on knowledge of environmental values, with young people in the region and in partnership with local specialized ecological associations (ANELMA).
- Introduction to the concepts of sustainable development and environment protection.
- Experiments in renewable energy.
- Educational games on the balance of nature, the ecosystem, the food chain (flora and fauna).
- Organization of practical and informative trips to the SIBE and the hinterland...
It is also important to emphasize that the Saidia destination received a second prize, this time for its beach, which was awarded to "Holmarcom" in partnership with the Municipality of Saidia.
